I remember doing my final essays back at school, hmm, some years ago (I won’t tell you how many). A large and at first somewhat intimidating that thing was. It was to consist of a series of qualitative interviews and a voluminous quantitative survey. I’m reasonably good interviewer so that part went by pretty smoothly but survey thing really tested my patience and nerves. It took forever to set up a pile of questions which answers would be scientifically comparable. Not to speak of how time consuming and frustrating the chore of compiling and getting the upper hand of all the responses of those who participated was. Back then I wasn’t aware that you could find the perfect survey tool for polls and academic studies like the one I’m doing on the internet. Maybe they weren’t as common back or it was me being ignorant of their (the online survey tools) existence.
